Beer Can Barbecue Chicken


  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme leaves
  • 1 whole chicken (4 lb)
  • 1 can (12 oz) beer
  • 1/2 cup KRAFT Honey Barbecue Sauce


  1. Heat grill to medium high heat.
  2. Mix first 5 ingredients and rub onto chicken.
  3. Open beer can and discard half of the beer.
  4. Place can on work surface and lower chicken over can, inserting it into tail end of chicken.
  5. Stand chicken on grill grate, using legs to help chicken stand upright (can should remain in chicken on grill).
  6. Turn off burners directly below chicken and cover grill.
  7. Grill chicken 1 hour and brush with sauce.
  8. Grill uncovered 15 minutes or until chicken is done, brushing frequently with remaining sauce.
  9. Remove from grill and cover loosely with foil.
  10. Let stand 10 minutes before removing chicken from can and carving chicken.
  11. Discard any beer remaining in can.
